We view retirement as a time of opportunity, a time to "explore, dream, discover." Our web site carries no invasive commercial advertising. It exists simply to allow retired people to share experience.
Our search is global and our vision knows no boundaries. The internet provides the means to search anywhere in the world to find activities that provide a sense of meaning and purpose in life.

Exploring Retirement is the initiative of Dr John Copelton. Prior to his own retirement, John was a Senior Careers Adviser at Queen's University, Belfast. His interest in life transitions led him to suggest a research study into the impact of retirement on well-being. In his mid-fifties he was awarded his doctorate for a thesis on "Self-determination and subjective well-being in older people". In 2007 he was the recipient of a Churchill Travel Fellowship to study retirement initiatives in the United States. John's work in the area of active retirement has been featured in the Times Higher Educational Supplement and on BBC Radio. His lectures on Exploring Retirement in the Open Learning Centre at Queen’s University, Belfast have attracted enthusiastic reviews.
Michael was born in Omagh, and has a degree in economics from Queen's University, Belfast. He began his career working in a bank in Stockholm for 6 months before changing direction to become a town planner in Northern Ireland, were he remained until his retirement. Michael has a love of writing and joined Exploring Retirement in Apr 2013 as a guest contributor. His regular monthly column revolves around his many interests, especially in the Arts. He is a past chairman of Omagh Arts Committee, a director of Omagh Arts festival and is currently a member of the board of Lagan Valley Regional Park. He was recently elected to the board of the Ulster Orchestra. Michael is also a keep-fit enthusiast, having run 16 marathons and many half marathons and 10k races.
Jeanette is happily retired. She lives in Canada (Greater Toronto Area) with her husband and two cats. After a successful career as an executive in the not-for-profit sector, Jeanette writes a blog www.postworksavvy.com designed to inspire others to enjoy a happy retirement.
